Why Christianity?

Why Christianity?  Why not Buddhism or Islam or Judaism?  Some try to answer this question by building the case from the ground up (as I do in The Cosmos).  However, now I try to answer this question by starting at the obvious and going back from there.  You could indeed start by rejecting all truth as the philosopher Descartes tried.  But from this stance Descartes was ultimately unable to define any truth.  Yes, the creation is proof that there are forces at work which are above the human level.  But it is not proof of what those forces are.  Are they the 330 million Hindu Gods?  Are they the spirits of traditional religions?  This is why it is important to understand that the Bible is the basis for believing in Jehovah and in accepting the Christian lifestyle.  We can know no truth aside from the word.  The word reveals the truth to us (John 17:17).  Therefore, all efforts to prove the truth true by things we observe are futile.  Only God, from his viewpoint of infinite wisdom and understanding, can tell what is truth.  This is why the word is the basis of all understanding about God and humanity.  The world tries to reason its way to truth.  This is the foolish wisdom that Paul spoke of in 1 Corinthians 2.

Why Christianity?  Because it’s scriptures have been proven true time and time again.  Its scriptures have historical events that can be tied to secular historians.  There are no doubt great truths found in other religious books.  Those books may even have a benevolent character such as the bodhisattvas in some forms of Buddhism.  But ultimately, these religions fail to explain the origins of the universe and the need for humanity to be redeemed because of its sins.  Other religions may have people sacrificing for their gods, but only in Christ did God give a sacrifice for the people.  The twelve men that Jesus chose as disciples were from various backgrounds, yet they were all faithful to spreading the word even to the point of death.  The previous religious uprisings in Jewish Messianic history were put down, but this movement flourished.  The proofs are strong, and the way is right.  Christ is the only way.
